How to Prevent Acne Scars
Acne can be embarrassing, but an acne scar that lasts for longer periods of time will only draw out that embarrassment for the life of the acne scar. Taking all precautions to prevent acne will make you least likely to have to deal with acne scarring. There are acne cleansers and medications that will treat the actual breakout, but before that, there are ways to try to ward it off completely.

To prevent acne, start by adopting a good facial cleansing routine. Acne or no acne, keeping your face clean is extremely important. Removing impurities, oil and dirt, as well as the dead skin cells that accumulate daily will benefit the skin on your face. This should be done once in the morning and once at bedtime. Always use warm water instead of hot, and a mild facial cleanser, or acne cleanser if there is acne present on the face. Exfoliate gently with a soft cloth and rinse well.

Dry the face gently with a clean soft towel. Avoid using a washcloth or towel more than once, as they will have bacteria on them after each use. Always remember to moisturize the skin on the face. This will minimize dryness and peeling of the skin. Noncomedogenic products are best as they will not cause acne. (Noncomedogenic means that it will not have a tendency to clog pores.) Use a moisturizer for oily, combination or dry skin. If acne is present, use an acne medication that will help with inflammation on the actual pimple.

Another important step in preventing acne is to use as little makeup as possible. The fewer impurities applied to your face, the less chance you have of developing acne. If you must use makeup to cover acne and acne marks, opt for something like a mineral makeup. Always be sure to wash makeup off at the end of the day. Try to choose products that are oil free, noncomedogenic and that do not have added chemicals or dyes. The products that you use in your hair can also cause acne. Any product than can get on your face can possibly cause acne as well. Use gentle shampoos and conditioners that will not harm your skin. Wash your hair often, as this will prevent oil from your hair getting onto your skin. Always keep longer hair off of your face, as hair will simply add oil to the skin on your face.
